Expediting is essential where capital or consumer products have to be produced in accordance with a pre-determined time schedule and when it is necessary:
- To require the manufacturer / supplier to execute the works promptly.
- To accelerate the process and progress.
- To achieve the prescribed target completion date.
Typically this involves:
- To require the manufacturer / supplier to execute the works promptly.
- Expediting of all project activities
- Expediting of a sequential group of activities such as activities forming a chain in a network plan.
- Expediting of selected activities of a particular purchase order.
This can be done by::
- Identifying what has been completed on time and any outstanding exceptions to the work done.
- Identifying which of the actions agreed earlier are incomplete.
- Identifying outstanding issues / potential problems that are hindering progress thereby causing delays or slippages.
- Preparing and agreeing action lists as the need arises with responsibilities and target completion dates specified.
- Verifying whether the proposed remedial action plan of the vendor will put the target completion back on track.
- Identifying which milestones have been completed on time and which milestones have slipped.
- Highlighting whether an action plan is in place to correct any slippage.
.
- Forecasting the need for any changes in resources or capacity.
- Identifying what work is to be done in the next time period.
- Identifying what milestones are due in the next time period.

The general definition of Non Destructive Testing is an examination, test, or evaluation, performed on any type of test object; without changing or altering that object in any way, in order to determine the absence or presence of discontinuities that may have an effect on the usefulness or serviceability of that object. In other words, NDT is testing and evaluating materials, without causing damage or destruction to the material. For example, the testing of a mechanical component for strength, without weakening the component, or making the component useless.
The new JME X-ray Pipeline Crawler is suitable for both onshore and offshore working environments.
In normal configuration it can be operated in pipe diameters from 510 mm (20") to 1420 mm (56"), but can easily be reconfigured to work in the range of pipe sizes from 400 mm (16") up to 1830 mm (72").
The crawler consists of lightweight modules that can be easily transported to the pipe end and quickly assembled. The total weight of the assembled crawler is significantly less than other similar sized models.
The unit features full remote control operation of the motor, park and expose modes from outside the pipeline. Once loaded into the open end of the pipe, the crawler is completely self contained and does not need any external connections.
Depending on operating conditions the crawler can typically radiograph 100 welds in 24" pipe with a 15 mm wall thickness, including motoring the 100 pipe lengths, before the battery pack needs changing. The battery pack can be changed without removing the crawler from the pipeline.
Testing of materials for their internal discontinuities and anomalies by passing gamma radiation emitted from artificially produced radioactive isotopes. The radiation transmitted through the material differs in intensity depending on the characteristics of the discontinuities present inside the material. The transmitted radiation is allowed to be recorded in a photographic film, which acts as a permanent record of discontinuities present in the material. The film so produced is interpreted and evaluated by the specially trained personnel to take a decision on the condition of the material.
The test sample is magnetized, and fine ferromagnetic particles are applied to the surface. These ferromagnetic particles align along discontinuities, both at the surface, and at some subsurface flaws. The method is easy to carry out and the materials required are inexpensive. The method is highly sensitive and fast. Ferromagnetic materials may only be tested in this way.
Liquid penetrant testing, a nondestructive means of locating and determining the severity of surface discontinuities in materials, is based upon capillary action. The ultimate success of liquid penetrant testing depends upon the visibility of indications. To ensure utmost visibility, the liquid penetrant contains either a colored dye which is easily seen in white light, or a fluorescent dye visible under black (ultraviolet) light. Because of the basic characteristics and ease of use of liquid penetrant testing, it is used to test a variety of both metallic and nonmetallic materials such as welds, forgings, castings, plastics, ceramics, etc.
High frequency sound pulses are emitted from a transducer above a sample. The sound waves propagate through the sample, and reflect at interfaces. The reflected waves are monitored using a detector above the sample. The thickness of the sample, and the depth and type of flaw can be ascertained using this method. The method can be applied to most materials if sound transmission is good. Quick high sensitive results are obtained. The testing is carried out from one side of the sample only. Complex shapes cannot be tested using this method.
The Spectroport sets the benchmark for analytical performance in a portable package and employs Optical Emission (OE) for analysis and metal testing. The OE spectrometer uses modern semi-conductor electronically controlled sources which are non radioactive.
The Optical Emission technique allows for the widest range of metal and alloy testing due to its coverage of a broad range of elements including Al, Si, Mg, Li, Be, C, P, S, B, not detected by other methods.
Equipped with both arc and spark excitation sources, the Spectroport can function in several operational modes. Using arc excitation, the sorting mode allows fast verification of all pieces in a batch and has the capability to identify possible product mix-ups. The spark discharge source can be used for precise and accurate elemental analysis approaching laboratory results.
The use of an arc discharge source allows results to be achieved very rapidly (within 0.5 to 3 seconds), whereas a spark discharge source allows superior analytical precision and accuracy with analysis times of 3 to 10 seconds.
For positive material identification (PMI) purposes the Spectroport can identify alloys within a few seconds. It is the ideal instrument for demanding on-site metal analysis at frequently changing locations.
